Given the South West's mild Mediterranean climate, it’s no surprise that the desire to combine indoor and outdoor living has flourished to become one of the biggest trends in home designs (WA).
No longer is the ‘back patio’ a basic, standard feature – today, the alfresco is given as much status and attention as its interior counterparts as home builders (Bunbury) look to achieve that perfect landscape where indoor and outdoor living becomes seamless.
To achieve this perfect balance, many of our most classic home designs are incorporating these ‘must have’ indoor/outdoor living design features into their home plans:
All in the right place
True indoor/outdoor living can be achieved when an open plan interior opens up into an equally spacious alfresco living area, enabling ultra-easy passage of guests, food and drinks from the open plan kitchen/living/dining areas inside onto the adjacent alfresco.
This close proximity is essential to blending both areas in the home plans so that the alfresco feels like part of the home and not an ‘add on’.
The luxury of space
Rather than small, poky patios that are swallowed up by a basic dining setting, today’s alfrescos should feel as roomy and as comfortable as the indoor areas in the home layout.
This space is evident in many of our display homes, including the Capri, Harvest and Capecove designs. Take the Capecove for example, where a sprawling open plan area streamlines beautifully into an expansive alfresco that has room for both a dining suite and relaxed couch area. A plastered ceiling with stylish down lights further brings the ‘inside out’, creating year round entertaining possibilities.
The Capri display home enjoys the added feature of a built-in BBQ in the courtyard, producing a permanent cooking fixture that invites even greater use of the great outdoors.
While the finest indoor/outdoor living home designs will always give direct access to the courtyard from the main open plan living area, a servery window takes your outdoor entertaining convenience to a whole new level.
The sheer brilliance of a servery window is evident in our Elmwood and Maple display homes, where food and drinks freshly prepared in the kitchen can be handed directly out onto the alfresco via the servery window, eliminating the need for constant back and forth traffic.
